Felting Sample

I'm finally planning to get rid of this pepto bismol pink yarn I've had for about a year. The color of it isn't exactly my cup of tea, so finding a pattern has been hard. I think I know what to do with it now, and part of it is creating my own pattern. At the risk of jinxing it, I don't think I want to go into all the details now. But, in the meantime, I'll say that it IS going to be felted. With that in mind, I felted a swatch today just to see if this yarn can, in fact, felt.

The felted result shown is after one full cycle of hot/warm in our washing machine. As you can see, it has felty qualities, but isn't 100% felted. I think what I'll have to do is have 2 cycles through the washer.

It's odd to see that while it's shortened up quite a bit, the width is pretty much the same.

What do brennx0rs do after Friday evening happy hour?

Uploaded by brennx0r.

Why, they make stitch markers, OF COURSE!

I am thinking about selling these (and if they sell well, make others).

They comfortably fit up to US 10.5 needles.

It's a clear night, so I decided to take aim at it with my camera.

Test shots with Canon 50mm 1.8 II Lens

So, I just got this new lens in the mail today and, with Jer available as a subject, took some test shots. I think that this one, by far, is my favorite.

FO - Wrist Warmers!

So, I decided to make wrist warmers out of the yummy giftie yarn. I have some left over, and I'm thinking about using it to trim a hat, or a scarf. Haven't 100% decided yet... suggestions?

I gotta admit, I thought for a second about posting these to the Knitting LJ community. But, the last time I posted something I got a lot of comments that would lend that my posts are a waste of space on their friends page. Soooo... I let that experience get to me and didn't post there. I'm not sure if I will again.

d00D! I came home today to find out that this gift was waiting for me. Apparently the gal at the site where I got Easter Eggs got traffic when I posted the yarn pr0n to Livejournal. So, as a thank you, she sent this along. What a nice and unexpected surprise :)

I'm thinking about what the send her way. Hmm...!

Beautiful today in Seattle!

I don't think I saw a cloud in the sky all day today, and the weather was quite nice. So, Jer and I decided to venture out and about. First we ate a late lunch in Fremont with our friend Eva, and then went to Home Depot to get some materials to get some container gardening going on. A few weeks ago, I did get some soil, some lavender, some rosemary, and a redwood 2.5' container, but it turned out that I didn't get enough soil. So today we got more, and also picked up another container, some more soil for that, a tomato plant, an oregano plant, and a strawberry plant. We also got some indoor plants, but I'll talk about those some other time. Below are the pictures of what was planted today...

the soil's a little low. I think I might go out and get more this week, and then replant.

Not a cloud in the sky.

Hat!

Thank you all for the great comments. I decided to follow alizarinorchid's advice (via LJ knitting community) and stripe it with some LionBrand yarn that I dug up from my stash.

Yay! It actually covers my forehead and ears now!

Thanks again for all the great ideas, comments, and feedback.

Hey all, I have just gone through my first online of handspun handdyed yarns via http://www.vintagek.com/, and I have to say that I am SUPER happy with my purchase!

So I ran across this site during one of my periodi visits to pluckyfluff.com (where I drool, but then get really sad because their yarn is SO EXPENSIVE.) Apparently the owner of pluckyfluff was endorsing vintagek, so I thought I'd just surf on over. I found this, and fell in love:

Yarn Stats
around 100 yards.
called Easter Eggs
Looks like it will work up on a size 10-13 US needle

I ordered on Sunday, and it came today. The packaging was incredible, and the correspondence for the order was very easy. And get this - my total purchase was under $20! I still can't believe what a deal it was :)

So, any suggestions on what to make with this? The thought of wristwarmers crossed my mind, but I am completely open to any suggestions y'all might have.

Cheers!

Finally finished Soleil!

It only took a week, and I'm already done. I want to make another one!

I think I'm done knitting for tonight. Here's another pic of my progress:

I'm on the 2nd repeat of the increases. Only 5 more repeats to go! W00t!

Progress on Soleil!

Just a quick post to show you the progress on Soleil:

I've finally finished the decrease rows. Next on deck is a lot of stockinette. Whee!

Knitty's Soleil!

Hey everyone! I just thought I'd share a WIP that I started last night...

I know, I know, I'm a little late on singing the praises of this pattern (most people started and finished this pattern mare than a year ago). After looking at some DK cotton that I've been trying to get rid of for awhile, it finally hit me that this would be the perfect project for it.

I started this bad boy around 9 PM last night, and finished the lace part around 12:30PM. VERY FUN LACE (I'm not kidding)! I would definitely recommend this pattern to anyone who is interested in getting into lace, and also wants to start on projects with a little more teeth. My goal is to be done with this by the end of the month, just in time for the weather to be warm enough to sport this. Wish me luck!

SIDENOTE: While looking over some google images of soleil in progress, I happened upon a blog devoted to Soleil (http://soleilalong.blogspot.com/). I really want to contribute, but was saddened to learn that the last post was quite awile ago, and I doubt that it's maintained by anyone anymore. Nonetheless, if anyone's interested in looking at a lot of photos of WIPs of this, it's a wealth of pics and info.

In other news, our only house orchid has started blooming!

I'm happy that there's flowers in the house, but I am a little sad in the respect that the only reason why it's doing this is, well, that it's about to die. Orchids, in near death, flower as one last "I hope to pass my DNA along" hurrah before they croak. This tragic plant, with NO LEAVES and a horrible fungal infection, is trying its damnedest. I hope it doesn't go, but it looks likely. Oh well... I suppose we'll have awesome flowers to enjoy in the kitchen before it happens.

Yep, I've just finished another Kate! For those of you who are interested in knitting cute toys, I highly recommend this. It's super quick to make, and very fun. :)

I made this up really quick for a friend. Rushed out to the store and picked up some Lion Microspun, and just finished it about 30 minutes ago. I've never used Microspun before, and found that it was a wonderful yarn for the price (around $2 per skein). It's so super soft, I couldn't believe that it's 100% acrylic. As an afterthought, I think that this may be the perfect yarn to use for making toys because it's machine washable and dryable (according to the yarn label, anyhow).
